Tennis Practice

I played tennis today from 1800-2130. I took the bus to the courts today because Daphne was still feeling tired from her trip to LA. You see, Daphne often gives me a ride to the courts on her way there. I took the 72R from 12th street BART station. I got a new Translink card so I used it for the first time today. It allows me to scan a card rather than have to fumble around with coins. I fumbled with the card though because it wasn’t completely obvious on my first try where I was supposed to scan it. Now that I know, it’ll be much easier next time.

The bus I got on had 2 sections so it was quite long. There were quite a few people already on the bus so I was in the back facing backwards. I pulled out my trusty iPhone which is GPS enabled and used it to decide when I pushed the ‘Request for Stop’ button. Sweet! It worked just fine. I got to the courts right in time.

Randy was the first to show so we played some singles. I took an early lead and was ahead 3-0 but then he started to come back. He takes a little while for his arm to warm up and then his serves are wicked. We got to something like 5-3 and then we stopped because other people started showing up. After that, we played doubles the rest of the night. In attendance tonight were myself, Randy, Bala, Payam, and Bill. We had a good time this evening. Pairings were pretty even so there was good competition.

Dinner

I’m having dinner now.  Didn’t really have a chance to get anything to eat today so I’m eating instant noodles.  I haven’t had instant noodles in a really long time.  I can’t even remember when I last had them.  The little pankcake thing isn’t something I’m going to eat right now.  I had one earlier before playing tennis but wanted the photo so I could post it on my peertrainer page.  It has some red bean sweetness sandwiched between the pancakes.

I microwaved about 550 mL water and the noodles together for 6 minutes.  Then I pulled everything out of the microwave and added the soup base.  Dinner in about 6.5 minutes is pretty hard to beat but this is definitely not a healthy meal.  The beer is about the healthiest part of the meal.  ;)   By the way, the beer showcased this week is Mirror Pond Pale Ale from Deschutes Brewery.  They’re out of Bend, Oregon.  I passed through Bend before so that was the selling point.  I like the beer.

Another view from the office

Here’s a view that I get when going from one part of the lab to the next. You can see San Francisco, Bay Bridge, and the Golden Gate Bridge. Too bad the iPhone camera isn’t that great.

Lunch

Had lunch at the cafeteria like I normally do when I’m at work. I had a turkey sandwich, a salad, and an iced tea which I know must have a lot of sugar in it. I ate/drank it all in one sitting.

I had lunch with Doug.

Donovan, Faisal and I signed-up on peertrainer.com to try to lose/gain weight. In so doing, I’m trying to keep a food log. What better way than to photograph my meals?

Weird dream

I usually don’t remember my dreams and often wonder if I have dreams at all. If I drink a beer before going to bed, I usually will have some kind if a dream. In this case, it was no different.

I had a dream that I was sitting in a car. The engine sat still on this old car probably from the seventies. There was a large river running along the left side where I was parked. Rolling green hills forced the river into a straight line and white, puffy clouds floated above in a mottled pattern. All-in-all it was peaceful.

Then, over the horizon, I saw a large band of native Indians approaching. They were on horseback racing towards me and were apparently hunting. Their guns drew a bead that I traced to my general location. I panicked, fumbled with the keys and finally got the car running. Before I knew it, they swarmed around me like wasps. I floored the accelerator and took off over the hills. My heart raced fearing that I’d be shot or I’d crash into an abnormality in the terrain.

Then I woke up. It was 2:30 AM.
