Dinner
Smartwool
I got some new socks today at REI. These things are AWESOME. Switching between the cheap tube socks and these things is like night and day. They are so soft and comfortable. Your feet and toes swim in luxury. It’s really quite an amazing product. I bought 3 middleweight pairs in preparation for DC. I already have 2 heavyweight pairs that I used for snowboarding. Cost is $17 per pair so they cost significantly more than the socks you can buy in packages but it’s well worth it. If you wear socks and shoes all day, they’re with you all day so the more comfortable, the better.
Translink
Ugh. Tried to use my Translink card today on my way to REI. It was blocked. Fortunately, I had some dollar bills so I just paid my fare with cash. Then I called Translink while I waited on the bus. I was on hold for a while after going through the automated system and then the rep wanted to put me on hold some more after I described the problem. She told me that when I signed-up that they were having credit card verification problems. She wanted to get my credit card again over the phone. I told her that I used the card just the other day and it worked fine. Then she told me that there must have been something wrong with the card reader because my card should have been blocked. So now, I was in a position where apparently 2 separate things failed: credit card verification and the bus card reader on multiple buses (I used it on a roundtrip). I didn’t like the sound of it so I decided to that I should check my credit card to see if they charged me or not first. In the middle of stating my solution, I lost reception and the call was dropped.
I came home and checked my credit card activity. There was no activity so I re-assigned my credit card to the Translink card. Hopefully it will be up and running by the time I get back from DC.
Packing
I’m getting ready to go to DC for 9 days. That’s a while to be away on work travel.
Packing:
3 sets of clothing + 2 extra pairs of socks for extra dry time
Computer
iPod + headphones
Airline pillow
I’ll buy the toiletries when I get there because I don’t have the travel sized toothpaste anyway. After all these clothes washing tests in the tub, I’m comfortable just washing every night to lighten my travel load. I should be able to get everything into a day pack. Sweet! If it doesn’t work out, I can always get some cheap clothing somewhere. No big deal.
Update:
Well, that’s it. The backpack holds everything I think I’ll need. The biggest x factor is sock drying time. I’m bringing four or five pairs (depending if my other thick socks dry) so that should be enough to tide me over.
Lunch
Breakfast
Having breakfast in the cafeteria as usual. This time I feel like I earned it. I ran 1.5 blocks to catch the train. When I left the house, I wasn’t sure if I could make it to the station in time so I walked fast. It became apparent along the way that I wasn’t going to make it unless I ran the last bit do I did. My knees weren’t too happy about it.
