Snapshot

We were on our way from the airport to the hotel.  This is ‘proof’ that we are in Washington DC.  The iPhone camera has quite a bit of lag after pushing the shutter button and the shutter speed must be quite low because it’s pretty pretty tricky to get a decent shot.  In a moving car, it’s almost impossible.  I had to time it so that the monument would peak out behind the trees.  That meant looking ahead and guessing when the shutter would release after letting go of the button.

Home sweet home

So here is my home for the next 9 nights.  It’s a pretty small room.  Not much going on in here other than it has it’s own cooling system which is nice.  I can set it to whatever I want.  That’s going to be important because in order for my clothes to dry, I can’t allow the humidity in the room to get too high.  That would mess things up for me big time.

You can see in the pictures below that I have already begun the process of cleaning my first batch of clothes.  The clothes shown are the ones that I was wearing on the plane.  At home, I have a little bucket that I wash the clothes in but I don’t have one here so I’m actually using the tub.  I figure I’ll let the clothes soak in the soapy water for 10 minutes or so before I start the rinsing process.

Oh yeah, everyone was really surprised that I only had a backpack. Hahaha, they were saying that I was going to be the one who stinks by the end of the trip.  They would be (and might be) right if the experiments at home don’t work well here.  ;)

There is nothing to see out the window.  It faces a courtyard.  It’s not even a courtyard.  It just faces a bunch of other hotel rooms.  I guess this building is shaped kind of like a U.  I’m on the side that looks at the other wing.  It’s not an issue for me because I won’t have time to do any gazing anyway.

Dinner

We had dinner at the Capitol City Brewing Company. They have very good pretzels and a horseradish dip. I had BBQ ribsand chicken which also came with fries, coleslaw, beans and corn bread. The ribs and chicken were pretty good but the rest of it was bland or else was downright bad. My piece of corn bread was over cooked and I didn’t like the coleslaw. The fries tasted like they were old and were kind of mushy. Apparently the beer is really good. I didn’t have any because I already had a headache from the lack of food on the trip over.

It’s quite dark in there so the photos didn’t come out as well as they could. You can get an idea of what it looked like though.

Drink

I’ve been sleeping most of the time this far so this is the first meal I’m having today. They serve lunch boxes which are available for purchase but I missed out on it.

They serve a small glass of orange juice. If you order a soda, you get an entire can. Probably costs about the same, if not more for the orange juice. It’s pretty good. I didn’t get a chance to see what brand.

This is just orange juice; there is no vodka.

Take off

34 seconds from full thrust to lift off in this Airbus A320. The plane isn’t that full. Many of the aisle seats that I can see are empty. Fortunately mine is empty. Tracy is sitting behind me and Mark is also back there in the aisle seat. Next to him across the aisle is Doug.

As usual, it’s cloudy over SF.

Breakfast

I got an almond croissant and a small black coffee at Peet’s near our gate. I didn’t finish the coffee.

Woody and I got to the airport at the same time. We were on the same BART train. He saw me as I was leaving the fare gate so we walked the rest of the way together. .

He wears a bicycle chain bracelet that is crimped together so he always gets the royal treatment going through security. This time it was no different.

After we got to our gate, we got our food.
