The email application on the iPhone lacks muster. After having gotten used to GMail’s interface, it’s difficult to migrate backwards in time. Looking through emails in chronological order rather than chronologically and by thread really hampers the experience. Also, the lack of a search feature demonstrates Apple’s inattention to modern email computing. I mean come on, folks. No search? Fortunately GMail allows searches via their limited web interface for mobile phones.

Dinner and dessert
Finished off the sandwich and chips for dinner. After that, headed over to Starbucks to get some coffee and coffee cake. It’s a nice combination. As you can see, I brought along my laptop so I could surf the web a little more comfortably. I use AT&T for my broadband service at home and part if that package includes broadband access at Starbucks. Unfortunately, I font go to Starbucks often because there are much better shops around. Anyway, the Internet connection was nice to have (free at many other shops, I know). The coffee cake was okay. It taste old. Once you learn how to bake your own sweets, it’s hard for even the best bakeries to match because they have to deal with longer storage issues relative to just out of the oven goodness.
The employees at this particular shop are amateurs. They carry on loud conversations amongst themselves and are rude to customers. The large tourist clientelle probably helps keep them in business i.e. tourists can’t be bothered to call in and complain about immature service.
Shazam
Donovan just alerted me to this application that runs on the iPhone. A very simplistic description is that it identifies music that you play to it. So, as an example, you hear something playing on the loudspeakers while you’re sitting on the can at your local airport. You pull out your iPhone and run shazam because you want to know what the name of that song and artist is. You let the program listen to about 15 seconds of it and then it returns the results back to you. It keeps track of all the songs that you have ‘tagged’ and then you can buy them individually on iTunes or just continue to build the list. Best of all, it’s free.
I really wonder how much signal processing power it takes to accomplish this. There’s got to be a bunch of people using the application.
I did, however, find one song that it could not identify. I even purchased it on iTunes. It’s called Na Hana Hui a Maui by Mark Keali’i Ho’omalu. They probably didn’t want to bother with the name.
Lunch
Went to Subway Sandwiches with Doug today for lunch. I got a footlong veggie delight. They have a promotion going where it’s $5 for a footlong sandwich. The thing is, a footlong veggie sandwich normally costs $4.69. I asked the guy if he was going to round up since there was a sticker on there indicating the sale price. He charged me $4.69 which is what I assumed he was going to charge. Just had to be sure.
I’ve been eating so much meat recently. That’s why I got the veggie sandwich instead of something else with meat. I didn’t even finish the meal. All I ate was half the sandwich and drank the soda. I brought home the chips and rest of the sandwich to eat later. It’ll have to do for dinner which is fine with me.
Aches and pains
I’m suffering from some aches and pains this morning. My neck and shoulders hurt probably from lifting all that junk yesterday. I must say this though: my back does not hurt at all. I bet it’s because I’m sleeping in a bed. I’m going to look into getting a bed when I get back.
Breakfast
Breakfast sandwich at the Waffle Shop with home fries and a bottomless coffee. Home fries are pretty bland. They’re really bland but in a way, that’s good because it’s just a matter of adding salt to taste. Still, it’d be nice if there were onions, bell peppers and maybe some rosemary.
I didn’t sleep very well last night. I’m sure it was because of the coffee I had at 9:00 PM. Getting up was a chore. Probably got 4-5 hours of sleep but still got up at 7 AM because I need to adapt. Ugh.
